Personalized Hair Color Is Easy [Review]

Recently I signed up for BzzAgent, in which I would be receiving complementary products for my testing purposes and sharing my honest opinion of that product.

I was invited to test a personalized hair dye product from eSalon.com

Before I received this product, I was sent to their website where I asked a few questions about my hair along with submitting a current photo of my hair color. At the end of the questionnaire you can pick your color. The website will not allow you to get crazy with the colors. You can not pick anything that is too light for a dark-haired person. The color I picked was “darkest brown with gold.” However there isn’t any golden in it. My hair is dark appearing almost black.

Within days of filling out my personalized information, I had received my personalized hair color. Just in time before I returned to work, which was a huge plus for this product.

You can listen to my podcast as I color my hair. It’s like being there with me as I test out this product.

eSalon Coloring Tools

This is $20 eSalon item

Included with this offer I received a $60 credit and purchased the “coloring tools.” This included a bowl, timer, battery, hair dye brush and 4 clips. The “Coloring Tools” kits is a $20 item.

What I liked about this product:

  • Arrived quicker than expected.
  • Very easy to use instructions.
  • Personalized hair color based on the answers I provided on the website questionnaire.
  • No strong order of chemicals.
  • The extra items that were included. Such as two pair of tight-fitting latex gloves. Stain guard and stain remover.
  • The scent of the conditioner was pleasant.

What I do not like about this product:

  • Cost.  It was a bit pricy. It’s $19.95 for an application. That might not be a lot for some, but for those on a budget it is a bit much. Worth it if you have the extra cash.
  • I think when it comes to hair coloring, it’s a gamble on getting the exact color you want. My color was a bit darker than what I expected. Not sure what the “gold” in the mix was meant for. Still alright, it covered the gray hair.
  • I colored my hair on Monday night, the gray hairs are already noticeable. Not a lot of them, however along my face the gray is peeking through.

I did not have any issues with using the website. I did not have difficulties receiving the package. It arrived in a very timely manner. Impressive to me. I did tell a few of my co-workers about this website and the idea of personalized hair color. Some seem interested, others seemed too leery about ordering stuff online.

I forgot to take a “before” photo. However, I did have some photos posted here just a few days before the color treatment. The header photo at the top of the page was taken the morning prior to the treatment. There is really no difference, which is ok. I was more concerned with covering up the gray hair.

Would I recommend this product? Not sure. If you’re in a hurry, then it’s worth the drive to the store to get a box of hair dye. However, if you’re planning something special, such a wedding, class reunion or something of that nature, which you can wait for the dye to arrive and want something that works – I would say “yes.” However, I am wondering if some of the higher end hair dyes work just as well for a bit of a lower price. I know some home hair color treatments cost anywhere from $3.00 up to $15. I think it boils down to your budget allowance and time. I probably won’t be re-ordering any more, just because the extra money just isn’t there.

Accuflora [Review]

Accurflora is a probiotic supplement that can be taken up to twice a day for a 12 hour support. Accurflora contains 5 beneficial stains of probiotics, which is listed on the information pamphlet [See Photo A] It’s the good bacteria that is found in yogurt. It is made to provide an internal balance to your digestive system after you’ve eaten fast food or dairy products.

Accuflora is made is the USA and distributed by the Church & Dwight company. This company also distributes other products such as Arm & Hammer, First Response, Oxi Clean and Trojan. Did I mention Church & Dwight also distributes the Spin Brush?

The things I DID like about Accuflora:

  • Was that within 24 hours I noticed a deceased in stomach bloating. This even was during my menstrual cycle. The relief of my discomfort is a major plus for this product.
  • I did notice a sense of regularity after 48 hours of using accuflora.
  • The caplets were easy to swallow. I didn’t notice any bitter or medication like taste.

The things I DID NOT about Accuflora:

  • That the statement “accuflora contains a blend of 5 beneficial strains of live active cultures to help support digestive health.” Followed by the list of the 5 live cultures have not been evaluated by the Food & Drug Administration.
  • I noticed an increase of my Acid Reflux. I can’t say with certainty that was due to this product, however when I didn’t take the second pill in the evening (after dinner) I didn’t have any problems.
  • After the 14 day challenge I really didn’t notice any difference besides the decrease in bloating.

I did take the 14 day challenge. I started with two caplets twice a day, in the mornings and in the evenings. I didn’t notice any stomach upset. It was pretty basic & simple. It is recommended that this product be kept refrigerated after opening for best results. I wonder about the expiration date and it’s effect on the product. The product does contain some milk. Would it lose it’s potency the longer it sits on the shelf? I wonder should it have a “Best Used By” label as well as an expiration date.

I would take this more often due to my digestive imbalance due to stress and aging. As a professional CDL driver, I tend to be under stress a lot due to driving, trying to prevent accidents, time schedules, etc. I eat fast food, mostly on the run, while driving. This product is a great addition to my daily supplemental intake. I did find that this product is only available in certain stores (in my area) such as Target and CVS. The average cost is around $10 for 60 caplets. Target does offer a cheaper price for an online purchase. Not sure I would continue to buy this product just due to it’s an added monthly expense, however I will consider taking it during my menstrual cycle only because it works (for me) far better for bloating than the standard medication such as Midol or Pamprin.

Truly Radiant [Review]

I recieved the New Arm & Hammer Truly Radiant Toothpaste and the Truly Radiant Spinbrush from Smiley360. I was rather excited to get this. I had seen it out in stores recently, wondered how well it worked. I am conscious about my teeth since I’ve had braces, oral surgeries since I was little. All that for a beautiful smile, so dental products are always a plus for me.

Arm & Hammer is a multi-brand company that makes several products such as laundry care products, household deodorizers, personal care, pet care products. It is a trusted brand. The Truly Radiant toothpaste contains baking soda for fresh breath and removing plague. Active Calcium is for strengthening the tooth enamel. The loss of tooth enamel can cause sensitivity when eating hot & cold foods, along with tooth decay.  The peroxide assists in removing stains, restoring gloss to the teeth. The Truly Radiant Spinbrush has a switch on/off button. The button can also be held down for manual control. It requires 2 AA batteries and the brush head is replaceable.

I didn’t like:

  • When first using it, the toothbrush is very powerful. It does take some getting used to, if you’re not used to powered brushes.
  • The toothpaste does have a slight burning or stinging sensation (if you’re not used to it). I couldn’t wait to wipe it off my chin, because of the sensation. Continuing to get used to the product, the toothpaste isn’t as harsh as the first time.
  • As far as tongue brushing, the Spinbrush takes some getting used to. I shut it off for the tongue brushing.

I did like:

  • That after using the Spinbrush for the first time, using it like an actual dental brush it seemed to be much more comfortable. I brushed each tooth separately just like at a dental cleaning appointment.
  • I liked the way my teeth felt after brushing. A smooth, clean, just walked out of the dentist office feel.
  • That the Spinbrush heads are replaceable. A package of two heads costs around $9.00, that should last six months. I toss my toothbrush every 3 months or so.
  • That the Spinbrush works on 2 AA batteries.
  • The design of the brush head. There is a circle at the top with two rings of elongated bristles, which changes colors when its time to replace the head. Then there is the bottom half of the brush that moves up & down.
  • I take more time brushing my teeth, more aware of cleaning each tooth.
  • Inexpensive & effective.

My Recommendation: This oral hygiene product is easy to use. Although it may take some getting used to, if you’re not used to powered toothbrushes. It’s worth the cost. The Spinbrush runs around $9.00 and the toothpaste runs around $4.00.  I’m 100% satisfied with both the toothpaste and spinbrush. I will continue to use this product.

Micro Therapy Pro [Review]

Ever since my accident I have suffered with shoulder and neck pain. When I read about the opportunity to test the Micro Therapy Pro by Painsmaster I sent in my request. I received this product a few days ago, as I sit here typing this review out. The box itself is 6.4 x 0.7 x 4.4 inches, weighing  0.3 ounces.

Inside the package

  • One set of Micro Therapy Pro™ patches
  • One circuit (connecting cable with built-in battery for  up to 300 hours of use)
  • User instructions

I am currently wearing the patches on my right shoulder and neck area. The low-level electrical stimulation is very low, so low that I felt nothing. I was assuming that I would feel something like the currents that I felt at the chiropractor’s office. It was difficult to tell if the product was really working. There is a red light that blinks when the product is working properly. I do like that the patches can be worn underneath my clothing. There is no aroma of a medicated gel (like Ben-Gay or Icy Hot) and most importantly there is no medication in my system that could hinder my driving skills. That means I can wear these patches while I’m at work. Driving.

I wore the patches for about 12 hours. Took them off, that’s when I felt 80% better. The patches have a gel type adhesive that does not pull the skin when taking them off. Rinse the patches & allow them to dry before reapplying to the plastic holder.  The Micro-current therapy patches are not a cure, but will definitely ease major pain, until if necessary a person needs to schedule for a doctor’s appointment. I tried using them on my lower back, however found it difficult to apply myself. The two patches have to be close together yet not too close and then to snap on the wire that connects the two patches. Very difficult for me to do by myself.

The price for this product is around $50. I have seen it as high as $80. That is just a little too much for me to spend on a product like this. However, feeling like I was I am glad I had the patches. Especially, with my profession, I can’t take a chance on taking medication that makes me drowsy. I would recommend this product to use when Tylenol or ibuprofen isn’t enough to ease the pain. Also, it provides pain relief until you can get to the doctor.

The instruction booklet provides all the information needed to use this product. I was a bit concerned when I read the first page. There are questions like

  • Do you have a cardiac pacemaker?
  • Do you have an implanted defibrillator?
  • Do you have any other implanted stimulator or metallic devices?

I have a metal plate in place of a clavicle. This concerned me. However, I did try the product and that is why I only kept the patches on for about 12 hours. I did not notice any change or problems afterwards. *Sigh* of relief. I would suggest calling your doctor before using this product if you are not sure. I think because the current is so low that it didn’t affect the metal plate I have.

I received a free Painmaster Micro Therapy Pro via Fuel My Blog for testing purposes only.

Rimmel ScandalEyes Retro Glam Mascara [Review]

I'm a Winner I received ScandalEyes Mascara (Extreme Black 003) by Rimmel London from Influenster as a gift for blogging about the JollyVoxBox.  I will start by saying I was thrilled to read that I was getting another product. Upon first seeing this product I wasn’t to thrilled on the background design. The design of the colors with a bull eyes effect. I just think it looks a bit too busy. However its very easy to open.

I received this product as a complimentary gift. I found that the price varies depending on where you shopping. The price ranged from $3.50 to as high as $12.00. I would pay $3-4 but not $12 for this product.

After opening the mascara tube, I noticed that there is a lot of thick mascara on the applicator tip itself. One should be careful applying this mascara. Applying too much at one time could result in clumping, matting and just a messy look. Apply a light coating at first continue with second & third coat to get the full effect.

There is a noticeable difference in the eyelashes after using ScandalEyes Mascara. My eyelashes were darker, thicker looking. Since the applicator brush is hour-glass shaped with a round edge it may difficult to reach the inner eyelashes. The middle and end lashes benefit the most for this product.

My Personal Experience: I didn’t like this product at first because it seemed so thick & wet that it went on too thick. I had to scale back on how much I was applying.  The tube is a bit chunky, about 5 inches in length. The one thing that I truly loved about this product is that I can take a nap wearing it and do not have to worry about waking up with raccoon eyes. There is minimal flaking, no smearing. Just a little touch up and I was good to go again. It did make my eyelashes seem to be thicker &  fuller. The effect longs a few hours, touch up will be needed.  It is messy to wash off, the longer I wore it the more flaking I did notice. It will leave a nice black rub mark on your finger if you rub your eye.  I wouldn’t have purchased this to start, however, I might consider purchasing it now after I have had the opportunity to use it. It’s just that it’s still a bit pricey for me.
