Questions about Quitting [AtoZChallenge]

A two in one post. Q is for Quitting & Wicked Wednesday is about Questions.Q

In the past I have read a few articles about “starting a blog,” but what about when to quit blogging.

A blogger/writer should quit when OR why some bloggers quit.

  • They have lost their passion to write or blog.
  • Life events are more important than blogging.
  • When starting out bloggers do not realize how time-consuming blogging can be.
  • Not finding a blogging niche, not fitting into a specific blogging niche.
  • Getting discouraged because of no comments or getting too focused on blog stats.
  • Not finding a supportive, accepting or friendly blogging community.
  • Not being able to come up with blog topics.

Those were just a few that I had read throughout the blogosphere. Now here come the questions…

  • What would be the number one reason that you quit blogging?
  • Do you have an end goal in mind, that if you reach that goal you plan on quitting blogging?
  • Will you ever quit blogging about your main topics or your blogging niche? (Sex, Fashion, Food, Parenting, etc.)
  • If you quit blogging about your main niche/topics what do you think you will blog about or would you quit blogging entirely?
  • What motivates you NOT to quit blogging, even if your stats suck, no one comments and you really think about quitting? What keeps you going?
  • Is there anything about blogging that scares or intimidates you?
  • Is there any advice you would give to a new blogger about starting a blog in your current niche/topic?

Wicked Wednesday

As far as me quitting this blog. The answer is not anytime soon, however shit happens and I could have some life alternating event that would prevent me from continuing this blog. For now, you’re stuck with me.

  • ‘Shit happens.’ That’s the story of life. One of the four noble truths ~ Life is difficult and painful. But perhaps, just maybe, that’s when blogging would benefit us the most. Kudos for another great post.

  • Some very interesting questions there which I think I may use in a post. Having closed down one blog and opened up Erotic Ponderings it will be an interesting exercise, provided of course that you are happy for me to copy your questions!

  • I have maintained several blogs and the answer to why they have died is “life happens.”

I was a sex blogger who got pregnant and had a baby. I spent my pregnancy throwing up right through delivery. It was difficult to have the motivation to talk about sex when I was likely to need to go see my doctor to get rehydrated mid-writing. While it’s a stereotype, my sex life took a big hit after the birth of #1 (much less so after #2, interestingly enough). I didn’t feel like I had the material to keep going. I eventually wrote about sex and motherhood, but again, I felt like I plumbed the depths.

My other blogs–an expat life blog, a book review blog–it comes down to allocation of a finite resource–time. I have x hours in a day, two kids, a household to run, a writing career, etc. They got shuffled to the bottom of the pile.

I think the biggest piece of advice, though, is that you can always go back when/if your passion for that subject returns.

  • Interesting. The reasons for quitting seems to make sense to me. I can only speak for myself. I don’t blog to please my readers, if any. If I would I would be posting pictures of women “in a corner”, because these are the highest on my stats list. No, I do it because it gives me joy to do so. It’s not about one nice of the blogland, but all mixed together. A person is more than a sex life. A guy with a lot of interests has a sex life as well. If people want to come, I love it. If they stay away that is OK too.

Actually, I do it for myself. It’s a collection of me. Of who I am.
    Why public blog?
Just for the fun of sharing what I like best.
I will quit I think when it contains all I want to say. And that may take while.

    Very nice post, as always,

  • What would be the number one reason that you quit blogging? – I hope I never have to quit, but I guess when life events get too important, I will quit, or at least blog a lot less than I do now.

Do you have an end goal in mind, that if you reach that goal you plan on quitting blogging? – Nope, I want to blog forever!

Will you ever quit blogging about your main topics or your blogging niche? (Sex, Fashion, Food, Parenting, etc.) – Nope, sex is my niche and I will keep on blogging about it for as long as I can.

If you quit blogging about your main niche/topics what do you think you will blog about or would you quit blogging entirely? – I think I will.

What motivates you NOT to quit blogging, even if your stats suck, no one comments and you really think about quitting? What keeps you going? – I’m doing it for myself mainly and it satisfies me to write.

Is there anything about blogging that scares or intimidates you? – Nothing I can think of now, although there are people I look up to and admire, but I don’t find that intimidating.

Is there any advice you would give to a new blogger about starting a blog in your current niche/topic? – Just do it, but when you start on it, remember that you have to put a lot of work into it to really become successful and make your voice heard. Don’t give up too soon!

  • I guess you stop blogging when you run out of things to say.

I had a work related blog and then I was made redundant, end of blog. Mind you, by ten I had some other stuff to say elsewhere. I had to move to escape the (thankfully now ex) gf of my new man. BDSM and Polyamory at its worse. I often refer to my journey and perhaps if it ended, I might stop. Likely as not though, I would recreate myself once again.

  • I have no plans to ever stop… I hope to continue sex blogging right on into my old age!

  • I have been at a point so many times that I wanted to quit but I just can’t find myself doing it. I may be slacking but eventually I will get my groove back. Plus my household life has been crazy hectic. It does get discouraging when you don’t see a lot of comments but I try to comment on everyone’s blog that I am following and when we do the memes. In the past it would be right away because I had more time but now it is when my inbox gets full for a month and then I comment.
