Each day during the month of February there is a different topic for you to record your thoughts, opinions or personal experiences. It’s just like NaBloPoMo, BUT instead of writing something down on your blog you will be recording your words using an audio platform of your choice.
FeBOOary has been around for a few years now, mostly remaining on audioboom.com. However, FeBOOary is always open to any one who wanting to participant in this challenge.
I’ve been working on a new blog for the meme. Not sure if I will create a new audio account just for this meme or if I will continue to use my existing accounts. I will be sharing this audio meme challenge where ever & when ever I can until after February. I will also continue to write for this blog. I have found that creating new things is stimulating for me. I have been excited, feeling good about creating for this challenge. I am hoping that a few people will participant in the challenge. The audio meme has undergone a lot of changes since the original days of its creation.
I am also re-thinking my current blog and it’s direction. Thinking about the new year 2015 and all that it holds for the future. Thinking about the direction I am going. I sometimes regret telling some of my friends about this blog, because I feel inhibited. Like I can’t always say what I truly think & feel. However, I’m trying to get pass that, because there are so many thoughts in my head it’s difficult to keep all of them inside. The other issue is that I can’t type fast enough to get all of my thoughts out there. I’d like to be able to commit myself to things, however that’s not really one of my best qualities.
I’m not sure how this year’s FeBOOary will turn out, hopefully it will be somewhat of a success.
Are you interested in participating in FeBOOary?
The Rules are as follows…
RECORD your thoughts, answers or personal experiences on the audio app/website of your choice.
SHARE it via Twitter, Facebook, you blog/website, Google+. TAG it using the following hashtag(s) febooary and/orfebooary2015
Whenever possible LINK back up to this website [febooary.wordpress.com]
LISTEN and/or Comment to other FeBOOary posts.
The challenge is to complete the month of FeBOOary by making an audio recording daily, using the daily prompts. There will be a different topic/question for the 28 days. There are no right or wrong answers, just sharing your experiences or thoughts. I will try to get a together a full list of everyone who is participating in the event. In the meanwhile I will be working on that website, along with trying to keep up with my primary blog.
Day 1:Have you made any new discoveries since last Octaver? What kind of year has 2014 been for you musically?I recently discovered a band called Volbeat. Scanning through the radio when their song “Lola Montez” was playing. I liked the sound of it.
She’ll be captivating all the men Don’t look in her eyes You might fall and find the love of your life heavenly But she’ll catch you in her web The love of your life, yeah.
Day 2: Give two examples of songs you like which were released before you were born.
I listened to Dean Martin when I was younger – Thanks to my father. “Sway” was released in the early 50’s.
I can always listen to Barbra Streisand. “People” released in late 1964. Again thanks to my father. I also listened to a lot of “Doo Wop.” I had a cousin who collected vinyl. When I would go and visit them on Sunday afternoons. He would be in his room playing his records. His older sibs would yell “Don’t play that old junk!” I was fascinated by the sound of it all. I would sit on the floor in his room and listen for hours. I learned the words to a lot of those old Doo Wop songs.
Day 3: Play a track which describes your childhood. I got nothing. Nothing comes to mind to describe my childhood.
Day 4:Find a track or an album released on your birthday. If none exist, find something from your birth year instead.
From what I have read The Beatles were in the studio recording their Revolver album during the week of my birthday.
Day 5:Tell the story of an artist or group you have met, or play something by an artist you would love to meet. I met the guys from Cheap Trick when I was young. I would have loved to have met Tommy Lee from Motley Crue. A few of the hair bands from the 80’s.
Day 6: Tracks you remember hearing on the radio when you were very young. I remember listening to AM radio. A memory that sticks out in my mind was riding with my BFF and her great Aunt Ce-Ce, Cecilia. My friend would play with the radio knobs. I heard The Fifth Dimension (Last Night) I Didn’t Get to Sleep at All and Simon & Garfunkel’s “Cecilia” which my friend sang in the car to her aunt, much to Aunt Ce-Ce’s embarrassment.
Day 7:Play a song, or songs with misheard or misunderstood lyrics. According to the 2001 Clear Channel Memorandum the song “In the Air Tonight” by Phil Collins was misunderstood…due to his lyrics. I remember when it first released, I was in high school. My emotions were a roller coaster. I could relate to this song because I was angry at someone who left me without a goodbye. Later, when I seen an interview with him, he explained that he was so angry with his divorce at that time.
“Well, if you told me you were drowning I would not lend a hand I’ve seen your face before my friend But I don’t know if you know who I am Well, I was there and I saw what you did I saw it with my own two eyes So you can wipe off that grin, I know where you’ve been It’s all been a pack of lies” – In the Air Tonight by Phil Collins
Greetings and Salutations … yesterday I came across on Twitter from ABC 13 news out of Ontario California woman loses her job after confronting family for flying a Mexican flag…and I guess what she did she called herself a political activist has lost her job and said she’s been getting threats after posting a video of her confronting the homeowner about a Mexican flag that they had flying in their front yard.
Below you can listen to my podcast [Runtime: 20 mins]
What disgusts me about this is that she recorded and posted it to YouTube. Why? What’s the motivation behind that? I think she wanted to get her community upset, since she is running for council I think she thought it would get support from … who? A specific demographic of her community? Because that’s what it sounds like to me. And to me, that’s behavior of a racist. Her entire approach to the situation was unprofessional, un-neighborly and down right shameful. How she will conduct herself if she wins a seat on her City Council? She gives the term of “Patriot” a bad definition. She’s a bad example. If she’s a Christian, I think she might have failed at that whole “WWJD” thing.
Her entire approach to that situation was shameful. Her entire conversation is degrading, insulting. I was outraged by her behavior and for posting it on social media. What’s sad is that she is that ignorant to her bad behavior. She can’t understand what she did wrong. That’s whats sad, that it has to be explained to her. She will not understand nor ever change her mind about what she did, because she is a racist, not a patriot.
You can watch the video below. Here is the link that I read from and copied the video from.
In another interview she is stating she was trying to tell them about flag etiquette. Nope. Don’t buy that at all. Her voice in the first video is clear that Mrs. Capps is hostile, aggressive. Now, since all the media attention has back fired on her, she’s trying to fix the damage she has done to her reputation, get some public sympathy for losing her job. Which by the way, I agree with Coldwell Banker 100%. They have zero tolerance for discrimination and she made their company look bad. America is a country of zero tolerance (in some to most cases) and I think she forgot that part.
Sure, I understand that flying a flag other than the American flag might be considered disrespectful. However, most people don’t even know simple flag etiquette. To me, using the American flag as a cape during Spirit week of a high school is disrespectful. I seen with my own eyes, no one said anything to the student. I left it alone. Wasn’t hurting me directly, just slightly annoyed with it. Maybe these people had no idea about flag etiquette, after all the wife didn’t speak English. After wards the news said that the family had both flags but not an American flag when Mrs Capps confronted them. Maybe they were not aware that the “politically correct” thing to do was to have both flags flying. It’s the manner in which Mrs. Capps chose to approach this situation.
Here’s a suggestion to Tressy Capps. If you are a true patriot and this type of thing bothers you so much. Start a flag etiquette class. Create flyers about the subject, work with a local Boy Scout Troop to pass the flyers out door to door. Organize a local flag ceremony of some kind demonstrating flag etiquette. If you have a Neighborhood Watch Group, organize a meeting about flag etiquette. Make a welcome package for new homeowners with the correct flag flying information included. Attend Landlord Association meetings and speak with landlords about their tenants, who are interested in flying flags. Don’t stop to harass, belittle, degrade people. Do something positive.
Tuesday I woke up to see the newest version of Audioboo, now called AudioBoom. There was a few things that I noticed that I didn’t like out of the starting gate. There is so much disappointment with this new updated version. The small community that I am a part of is hurt, confused and disappointed. Some feel that this is the beginning of the end of the community as we know it to be. I highly doubt it’s the end, yet I’m sure that some (such as myself) will be looking elsewhere to record. Others might stop all together recording, others might try to find other ways to record to bypass the audioboom app. There will always be some community there, until the site closes down. The community might not be as tight-knit as earlier times. I will always be around.
Audio Error. Audioboom is an AudioBUST
You can listen to my podcast that I talk about some of the apps. Keep in mind that the written post and podcast do not contain that exact material. [Thanks to GingerTom for the background music]
There are just a few issues I have, otherwise I am fine with the new version.
I do NOT like that there is an auto-play when opening the app.
I do NOT want to hear anyone else but those that I am following.
I do NOT to hear any other channels. I just want those members that I am following in my stream.
For me, it’s difficult to found, listen to the most recent, current posts from those members that I am following. I ended up going to the main website page to find the recent stuff.
Bottom line it is difficult for me to maneuver around in the app to listen to just the people I want to hear.
I have always been into doing audio. It’s so much easier than typing out the words. Besides I believe that the listener can hear my emotion in the audio. I like to review some of the audio apps that I come across, to see their potential. Below are some of the apps, websites that I have used or reviewed. Please feel to add any information that could be of use to someone who might be considering using or downloading one of these apps.
I added a few issues that come to mind, both positive & negative. Each app offers something different. I have not found an app/website that offers everything. The closest I have found is Voqel. Downside; only an iOS app available.
Chirbit – Has potential for community or lone wolf activity. Chirbit iOS app is 99 cents. Recording space depends on the space you have on your phone. Ability to share, embed and voice or text comment. Has website to view members profile page. I do not like the look of the app or website. The colors are dab.
Ipadio – Community. Can upload files, including location and photos. Can share to social media. Can use telephone to call app to record. There is no voice commenting only text. The app is solely for recording, unable to view other members or main webpage. All commenting, viewing and listening needs to be done on main webpage or by RSS or itunes.
Voicebo – Very similar to AudioBoom, however there is only 5 minutes per audio. The community isn’t a strong one, has potential. Tag section and description section could allow more characters. Only text commenting within the app. Can subscribe via RSS feed. The app is pretty easy to find your way around. If you sign up there, PLEASE tell Brett Wilson that Cat sent ya!!!
Eevzdrop – There is no uploading files on this app. No website to view a member’s profile page. There is 10 minutes of recording time. After uploading your “drop” there is no option to edit. You can only share to Facebook, not to Twitter. You can copy the URL and share it.
Dubbler/Yappie – Voice filters. Some sense of community. Time limit on recording is 60 seconds.
VoiceByte – You only get 30 seconds to record. It’s great for a promo or sharing a statement. Ability to include a photo and link to that recording. Can share to Facebook, Twitter and Friends. There seems to be only a handful of users here.
Add all your information about your audio. Then when your ready to upload (save) it swipe to the right (following the fingerprint & arrow)
You can share via Facebook, twitter and to your friends/contacts
Helpful hints. This disappears after your first recording is uploaded.
Voqel – This app wouldn’t even let me sign up. The “timer” just kept going, even after deleting it and reinstalling the app. I went to the website and was successful in creating a profile. Everything about this really looks interesting, promising. I will have to say this is so far the best of the community formed audio/broadcasting/podcasting networks out there. Files can be uploaded from the website and members can also record via microphone. The website is user-friendly with detailed “how-to’s.” You can even create private groups. Sadly, there it is only available on iOS. There is so much to this app and website. Two thumbs up for this one. You can view my first recording >HERE<
CLICK the microphone icon below to go to my Voqel profile page.
You can scroll up & down to find new podcasters to listen to.
Under the “discover” button, you can scroll to the left under a categories to listen to different podcasters.
Under the “share” button you can comment (both audio/text) email, twitter, facebook.
To record tap the green button (it turns red). After you’re finished you click “next” and you’re taken to the page where you add the information about your audio
Connect with friends, invite friends make groups
Add all your information about your audio here.
Micbytes – Waste of time. No activity since August of 2014. Can’t share with Twitter or Facebook after uploading the post. Too vogue of an app.
If sharing is not turned on prior to uploading. You will not be able to share afterwards.
There are adverts in the stream and looks like no one’s home on this app.
Click the MIC icon to record (it blinks red) and a photo, location and post it.
Soundcloud – I stopped using this after the plans were introduced. My account has 3 hours left. I did like the app and the website. Those site is mostly filled with DJ’s. I guess “Lordes” was discovered after uploading her tracks to Soundcloud.
Spreaker – There are plans you can purchase. My account only has 10 hours left and I can record up 30 minutes. After that I would have to purchase a plan. I did really like this app & website. However, there cost is my main issue.
Blog Talk Radio – I used this for two years or more. Cat’s Tales Podcast. Main issue I had is that the sound quality is total crap! You need a phone to use this site. There is no app for this site. You use your landline or cell phone to record your audio. You can upload 3 mp3’s to use during your broadcast. You get up to 30 minutes free, with 15 minutes extra also free. I called the 15 minutes “the after party.” A member can schedule a show/broadcast to air live with a chatroom during non peak hours. Only paying members get access to prime time slots. A member can share to Twitter & Facebook. The interactive dashboard is pretty easy to use. There are a lot of good qualities about BTR, the whole set up is really cool. The “Studio” that a member uses to record their broadcast or to upload a file. A member can upgrade, starting at $39 per month in which a member can use Skype to record their show. There are more bells & whistles with the upgrade.
Check Out Lifestyle Podcasts at Blog Talk Radio with SassyCat38 on BlogTalkRadio
PodOmatic – Mostly for music DJ’s. There is a storage limit of 500MG and bandwidth of 15GB. Not sure if it’s restarted after 90 days or if the member has to upgrade. The basic plan is $9.99 per month. A member can edit their profile page.
Mixlr – I downloaded this one. But there was something about it, that I couldn’t figure it out. The way it looked bothered my senses. It was unappealing to me. So if you can share some insight on this app and website that would be great.
Melt – There is only 60 seconds or 30 seconds of record time. There is a feel of community there. I do like the embed player. You can read my full review >HERE<. There is no main website. This app seems to be only available in iOS. I would use this more to toss a single thought into the air on twitter.
Here are a few other iOs apps that I haven’t “tested.” They look kind of tame, simple and similar to Melt, Yappie, Dubbler and VoiceByte.
I noticed that most of these apps are iOS only. A few have android, Windows versions available. Do you have a recommendation for an audio, voice, broadcasting app? Share it. I need to nick my Beloved’s new Galaxy to visit the app store to see what’s available. BUT if you already tried something, drop me a comment. Share your experience.
The topic of sex is always in the background of my mind. I was still thinking about the question “Why do we demonize men who are honest about their sexual needs?’
I decided to talk to my mother about this. To find out how she felt, being an older woman, having been raised in a different time with a different way of thinking. Not to mention the totally different view about sex in general.

My mother was raised that the idea that sex is something that is not to be discussed. Something strange, scary and it’s a part of marriage. Sex was a frightening act that probably was not pleasurable, but only to the man.
We discussed a lot of personal opinions, experiences about the topic of sex. How society has changed but managed to stay the same if that makes any sense.
Perhaps you can get some into sight into how I, Sassy Cat, came to be. Not just a result of my parents fucking, but how &b where my views of sex started from. We are just two women sharing a meal, spending some mommy-daughter time together and talking about sex at a fast food joint.
I’m not really sure how long the podcast is, maybe 20 minutes or more. Please lemme know what ya think and if you have any topics you would like me to discuss, drop me a email.
Keep in mind that was is said in the audio is different than what is typed above. The above is merely a summary. [25 mins runtime]

I decided to do a podcast after reading the article. What I thought would be just a 20 minute podcast turned into almost an hour. [54:00]
In one of the comments was a link to another blog post about “Confidence, Arrogance and Escaping the Aggressive/Weak Paradox.” I went to read that one. I still wonder about society, sometimes we seem to have moved along so far and yet there are times when it seems we are still some backwards thinking when it comes to sex, sexuality and men & women.
I really don’t understand society or some women’s way of thinking. We all know we think about sex. We all want sex. OK. There might be a few people who don’t but the rest of the population wants to get down with some hard thrusting fucking. Yes?!
Lemme know your opinions on the podcast. Share your opinion on the articles. Where do you stand on this issue?
Thanks for listening. Got an idea for a topic for me to discuss? Contact me directly.
It turns out that your neighbor on the plane/bus/train (or the person sitting at the next table at the coffee shop) is a very, very chatty tourist. Do you try to switch seats, go for a non-committal brief small talk, or make this person your new best friend?
