Who I am and Why I’m here

One of my 2014 goals is to get more involved in the serious business of blogging. Ok, maybe mine is more like a hobby. For some, it’s their life, how they make their money. I don’t ever see myself there. Starting off small, like this, I lack discipline. I’m hoping that I can keep going with this, more importantly learn something about blogging, myself and others upon completion.

In my audio podcast I let my thoughts flow freely when completing the task for day 1 of the Zero to Hero ChallengeSo, if you listen to the audio, it will not be word for word.

Lemme just answer the questions provided.

Why are you blogging, rather than keeping a personal journal? I started out blogging out of being cyber bullied, cyber stalked. I wanted a place I could express my inner thoughts about my experiences. I had a podcast that I was doing on Blog Talk Radio that I wanted to do independently. I wanted a blog to go with the podcast. I wanted a space to toss out my thoughts about people who have passed through my life leaving a trace on my heart. Bottom line I wanted a place that I could write, share, post those random thoughts that were (are) floating around in my head, bumping into each other causing me to have frequent “brain farts” due to overcrowding. Lastly, I figured, maybe just maybe that might be that one person who reads my stuff, who finds comfort in the knowledge they are not alone in their feelings. Perhaps, they laugh, smile or say a prayer for me. Touching just that one person, I guess.

What topics do you think you’ll write about?  Topics that invade my mind, no matter how random. However, this year is the new beginning. I want to post about topics I know. Topics I am passionate about. I just got to get past the feeling of being judged. I just want to write about topics that I experience daily. A few examples would be marriage, sex, getting older, being a grandmother, traveling, human behavior. One topic that I really wanted to share was my experience with men online. How friendships can develop, between married people. Discussing that topic of online friendships, relationships kind of thing. Another subject I am working up the courage to write about is mental health. I have always been fascinated with human behavior, the human mind and the why’s. Why are person does this or does that. About certain addictions, sex, drugs, booze. Personality disorders. Wow. That’s a lot of stuff. Lastly, I have enjoyed writing some product reviews. Sex toys, makeup, food, I’ll try (maybe) anything once.

Who would you love to connect with via your blog? Like minded people. Individuals that can relate to what I wrote about. Really? Anyone who has something in common with what I’m blogging about. Connecting with bloggers that I can learn from, whether for my personal life or just about blogging.

If you blog successfully throughout 2014, what would you hope to have accomplished? A name for myself. Feeling at home somewhere, some place. Currently, I just feel like I’m floating when it comes to my blogging.

I noticed the answers became shorter with each question. Not bad for the first day. If you would like to know more, you can peek at my about.me page or my main About Me page here on my site. In My Beginning is another post sharing about my internet life.

My First Day [Daily Prompt/NaBloPoMo]

Tell us about your first day at something — your first day of school, first day of work, first day living on your own, first day blogging, first day as a parent, whatever.

Across the River, from the highrise looking into the ‘south side’
Another ‘ghetto ‘hood.’ only it’s better cause it’s the Latino Ghetto 😉

Towards the end of summer this year, I was in transition. My regular employment was on break and I needed something to keep the money coming in. I had my manchild graduating & relocating to Texas. Plus I had the vacation of my lifetime just around the corner.

I had kept in touch with my former boss who was currently employed as a regional apartment building manager. We had been talking about my financial situation. I joked with her “Hell, I would sweep floors if I had too.”

She laughs back “that’s funny, because I do have a position open, it’s just general cleaning around the building. If you want it, it’s yours.”

I jumped at. I wanted to know if I could do it, second it was an honest job and I needed the greens. So, I showed up. My first day working in the ghetto.  The building had been formerly part of “the projects.” Now under management, major changes, turnovers, new residents, etc. I wasn’t afraid. I am familiar with the ‘hood.

I meet with my boss, filled out paper work. Then off to meet my immediate boss, he was cool. We all went up to an apartment so I could get a feel for the building. The apartment was like walking into an oven. It’s close to 100 degrees, these residents don’t turn on the A/C because ya gotta pay for that shit, ya know?! I was starting to sweat buckets. The hallways had a blast of A/C, but not enough to keep ya from getting heat exhaustion.

I was shown a push cart filled with cleaning supplies. Toilet bowl cleaner, brooms, trash bags, window cleaner, gloves, paper towels. My job was to clean the front lobby, wipe down the elevators, sweep & mop the floor in the main lobby. Move to the public bathroom, clean that with bleach, mop the floor, add toilet paper, etc. Moving onto the laundry room, sweep it out, wipe down machines. Then move onto each floor. There are 15 floors. Now clean the hallways, sweeping the floor. Which on a hot humid day the dust mop won’t move on the floors. So, it’s a broom. UGH. Then mop each floor. Wipe down the handrails, wipe down door knobs for the trash closets. I had to laugh at the bullet hole in one of the glass windows. Window had that metal netting inside of it, so the window never did crack, so a small dent. It wasn’t that bad of a job, seriously. I thought I would lose weight, at the time I didn’t notice. But I did lose inches. Two inches to be exact. Anyway, what made this job disgusting, irritating and not worth the headache was when I walked into the bathroom and someone had shit in the trash can! yup!

Then residents would come to me and say “som’ people be so nasty.” Really?! Ya think?!

How about the residential crack head hookers telling me that “you missed a spot here on the elevator door.” She also told me that she almost fall and died because I forgot to put up the “wet floor” sign. If someone would stop stealing them, I might have put one up! There is so much more I could share with you, but why? You get the picture. My first day at this job was indication to me that I wouldn’t be staying or making this my life profession.

Love to Love You [Daily Prompt/NaBloPoMo]

What do you love most about yourself? What do you love most about your favorite person? Are the two connected?

I love that fact that I am a “wild child.” I love that at times I act goofy, immature & just plain bratty.

My best friend told me that I acted like a cat sometimes. I never believed that my personality was similar to a cat. However, thinking about it, I do have similar cat-like behaviors. My best friend & I joke about it. He has always loved cats, always having one in his life.  My best friend, doesn’t mind the way I misbehave at times, he loves me just as I am. I love that he accepts me for me.

I love the way he is patient, kind and very understanding. I love the way he thinks decisions through unlike me. He can talk to just about any one at any time in any situation. I can’t, I won’t. I know that what our relationship is made of, does not work for every one. However, it works for us. We are really opposites, yet we seem to balance each other out. And that is a wonderful thing in my book.

Come Fly with Me [Daily Prompt/NaBloPoMo]

This past September (2013) I traveled across the pond for the first time to visit my #1 fan & his Mrs. I was there for 10 days. I took over 600 photos. Why? Who knows, why does any one took photos. Here are just a few. You can view the rest on my flickr page.

[Please contact me direct if you are interested in using any of my photos]

Don’t forget you can peek at the rest here.

I flew to Hearthrow Airport in London, England and then off to the Isle of Sheppey. In the course of the 10 days that I was there I traveled to London, Chichester, Portsmouth, Beaulieu, Windsor and Dover. It was landscape was breath taking. I realized a few things about America while I was over seas that I never that I would admit. Americans are so spoiled & lazy. Americans drive everywhere, even across the street. When Brits walk. There are not a lot of overweight people verses here in Northern Illinois.  There are no super size me drinks or meals, no free refills.

I hope the next time I travel to London, that I will be able to meet more of my efriends that I have made online. Also, I would like to travel to Belgium or perhaps France.

It’s all about the Stuff

Daily Prompt: Procrastination

What have you been putting off doing? OMG..where do I start?! Storage units. For some strange reason, everyone in my family seems to think we are a storage unit. First I got my mother’s stuff when she moved into a high-rise apartment. Then “old Man’s” mother gave us a bunch more of her stuff since her 5th husband passed away. My oldest son just recently removed the last of his belongings out of the storage unit, when he came down from New York with his girlfriend. My daughter had taken most of her belongings when she moved out, into a bigger apartment. Now, the final kid, the one who is moving to Texas. It’s most of his stuff, but since he is moving to a small apartment he won’t be taking a lot of his stuff. I have at least 10 of those plastic tubs filled with legos, matchbox cars & books.

Why? There is NO where to put the stuff we currently have. We have three sheds in our big yard. We look so redneck, Hoarders and ghetto! I am not worrying about the details right now, since we will be going on vacation soon. I will go through the boxes of stuff (another procrastination issue) and sort out stuff we don’t need, use or want. UGH!
